Position Summary

The Loan Servicing & Collections Specialist supports the credit union’s lending operations by ensuring loan documentation accuracy, proper collateralization, ongoing loan servicing, and effective collection and recovery activities for delinquent and charged‑off accounts. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, regulatory awareness, and a consistent commitment to member service.

This position is 100% in‑office at our College Place branch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review completed loan documents for accuracy and compliance with Credit Union policy
  • Ensure loans are properly collateralized; coordinate with dealers, the Department of Licensing, and third parties to obtain and release titles
  • Service existing consumer loans, including document audits, record retention, and insurance tracking
  • Perform collection activities on delinquent and charged‑off accounts in accordance with Credit Union policy and applicable regulations, including FDCPA
  • Contact members and co‑signers to negotiate repayment plans and account resolutions
  • Monitor repayment arrangements and escalate accounts as needed to management
  • Assist with refinances, loan modifications, skip‑a‑pay options, and insurance claims
  • Coordinate repossession, liquidation, and recovery efforts when necessary
  • Maintain thorough, accurate documentation and prepare collection reports for management
  • Protect member confidentiality and support safe, sound lending practices
  • Participate in training, cross‑training, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (verbal and written) with the ability to conduct complex financial and collections conversations
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in consumer loan servicing and/or collections
  • Experience working with delinquent loans, repayment plans, and charge‑offs
  • Strong customer service skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a regulated environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bankruptcy processing experience
  • Repossession and collateral liquidation experience
  • Loan insurance tracking and claims experience
  • Credit union or community bank experience

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position works in an office environment with moderate noise levels. Duties require regular speaking, hearing, computer use, and visual acuity. Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform essential job functions.
