Fraud Alert: Phone Number Spoofing Scam

We have received reports that scammers are using Blue Mountain Credit Union’s phone number to contact members while pretending to be representatives of our credit union. This technique is known as caller ID spoofing — where fraudsters disguise their identity by making it appear as though they are calling from a trusted source.

Rest assured: your personal and financial information with us remains safe and secure. These spoofed calls are an external scam attempt and do not reflect a breach of our systems.

How the Scam Works

  • Deceptive Calls: Fraudsters may claim there is an issue with your account or reference suspicious transactions to create a sense of urgency.
  • Requests for Sensitive Information: They may ask for your full debit or credit card number, PIN, online banking credentials, Social Security number, or one-time security codes.
  • Impersonation Tactics: The call may appear on your caller ID as coming from our phone number (509) 526-4562, but it is not us.

Blue Mountain Credit Union Will NEVER:

  • Call, text, or email you to ask for your full debit or credit card number
  • Request your PIN, CVV code, or online banking password
  • Ask for one-time passcodes or multi-factor authentication codes
  • Pressure you to take immediate action over the phone
  • Ask you to send funds to anyone to “protect your account”

What You Should Do

  1. Hang up immediately — do not engage with the caller or provide any information.
  2. Do not call back the number that called you, even if it looks legitimate.
  3. Call us directly at (509) 526-4562 or visit us at 520 S. College Ave, College Place, WA 99324 to verify any claims.
  4. Report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov.

If You’ve Already Shared Information
